Circle Jerks - Skank Man by Frankentrina Circle Jerks - Skank Man by Frankentrina
Circle Jerks' mascot, "Skank Man"

Ball-point pen and prismacolor pencils - 1996-1998

The Circle Jerks was/is a punk band from the early 80s. This was the original design for the Skank Man, when they made a comeback in the late 80s/early 90s, he had long hair, sneakers, and was wearing the flannel.

"Skank" refers to a punk dance style, which is what he's doing.

Hell yeah man... mad love for Circle Jerks :D! My middle school years were wasted listening to their Golden Shower Hits Album, Dead Kennedy's, Blitz, Agnostic Front, and Exploited almost constantly. Loved my Doc Martens to death (and still do), still had love for the whole scene... but shit man. I fucking hate people. Got sick of the constant breathing down your neck saying "oh you need you to trade your muddy yellow flannel jacket for a leather vest filled with spikes and patches, and buy some skinny jeans like some zombified idiot with a pocket full of cash at hot topic". When really I still don't understand why you have to look a certain way. The labeling pissed me off the most though. Only so many times you can get accused for being a bonehead (racist skinhead) before throwing in the towel and grow out the hair. Still enjoy going to the occasional Agnostic Front show, the occasional shot of whiskey, the occasional circle pit, the constant bad decision but the mindless need for people to define what's "punk or whatever" or not butchered it for me. Mainsteam "pop punk shit" deserves to die, I think that's what helped fueled the morons. If I ever get the chance, I would piss on the talentless musicians behind Green Day or Good Charlette... probably would be the happiest day of my miserable life

The saddest day was when punk became a "popular scene"... people trying too hard and spending too much money. My dad and I never went all-out, we just had funky old clothes, then when they got worn out, you pin em back together, write some shit on it with sharpies, and there ya go. His ex-girlfriend's son would jump his case about not being "punk enough"... he dosent really like the hardcore stuff anymore (the son was into the leather and spikes), and didn't like his band "Vaginal Blood Farts", mainly for the name.

Careful when talking about "the kids today"
The previous generation in my more youthful days (80's) used to say the same kind of crap about me/us and the music we listen(ed) to.
I'm certainly more grown up looking these days but my blood still rages.
clothes and haircuts don't mean shit.

Thanks :) I hate the "newer" version of the skank man...even though thats typically how I looked growing up, with the flannel and all. I hate what they consider "punk" nowdays, I hate all these emo un-hawks I see because kids are too chicken shit to shave their heads proper.

I sat with one of my dad's CJ albums and drew that over 10 years ago. I've got that shirt too, but goddamn if it isnt too big for me.
